The Orchard Hen House
This traditional hen house is of a style that has been seen in our countryside for generations. What we have done with this traditional design is think it through a bit further. We ensure that it is as easy as it can be to access for both cleaning and egg collecting. Not only does the nest box roof open but so does its side and the roof of the house itself. In addition to that the nest box lifts off entirely, offering the easiest access to the interior of the house for cleaning.
Built to last
As with all of our products, The Orchard Hen house is hand made from quality timber, screwed together with Zinc plated screws and fitted with heavy duty, galvanized hinges, bolts and fasteners. This all helps to ensure that The Orchard Hen House will be serving you and your chickens well for many years to come.
To finish the Orchard Hen House we give it multiple coats of 'Creocote' inside and out to protect the wood from the worst the weather can throw at it. Creocote can also help keep Red Mite at Bay.
A Hen House On Wheels
Moving your hens house regularly can help to protect the ground around it and so we offer wheels as an optional extra. Two axles and four wheels with or without a rear handle make moving house simple over any distance. The robust and smart looking rubber and plastic wheels are large enough to cope with fairly rough terrain. If you choose to have wheels fitted to your hen house then the door will be a side hinged version with a separate ramp to accommodate the extra height.
The Orpington - Specialist Large Fowl Hen House
The Orpington is a modified Orchard Hen House, designed specifically to accommodate larger breeds of chicken. Larger door, main body and bigger, roomier nest boxes with reinforced mounts are the primary modifications as well as internal changes to ensure sufficient room for larger hens to perch comfortably. You can choose the Orpington variant in the size menu above or view The Orpington Page here.

- Finishing Info
We want to make sure that our hen houses will be serving you well for many years to come. That is why we offer a choice of timber treatment on all of our timber products.
Our Standard Treatment
All of the timber we use is clear pressure treated. On top of this our standard treatment is 'Creocote', the new version of Creosote wood preservative. This colours the wood nicely bringing out the grain as well as helping to keep Red Mite at bay. Each product treated with Creocote gets multiple coats internally and externally and should not need re-coating for at least a couple of years, at which point it is easily available and very easy to apply (When re-coating the interior, which should help keep Red Mite at bay, chickens should be kept elsewhere of 4-7 days)
Custom Colour Finishes
Using Cupronol Garden Shades
Some of our products can have custom colour finishes.
If you would like you hen house coloured we will apply 3 coats of Cupronol Garden Shades as we hand build it for you. Three coats ensures the wood is well protected and provides an excellent finished surface quality. We use a well know brand of 'paint' so that in a few years time when the house could do with a touch up it will be easy for you to find the matching colour.
